Labour MP Shabana Mahmood has unveiled a proposal for a new refugee pathway mirroring Canada’s approach.
It would permit corporations, academic institutions and neighbourhood groups to sponsor refugees, offering assistance with accommodation and work.
The aim is to speed up integration and reduce pressure on the existing system.
Mahmood says the route could see thousands of people arrive, like the Ukrainian model implemented previously.
Critics claim the initiative might pressure public services.
The government has yet to set a timetable.
