OCEARCH reported that Contender, the biggest great white shark tracked in the program at 1,600 pounds, has entered Newfoundland waters. This is the first time a tagged shark in the program has moved into those waters. Contender is the biggest shark OCEARCH has tagged on record.

In a separate incident, a surfer was bitten by a shark at Glenfield Beach in Western Australia. Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart recalled "My heart stopped" as she gave new information about the encounter. Scientists also detailed discovering the largest shark known.
